Rauch Foundation – Wyandanch Early Childhood Curriculum Project (August 2010 – August 2011)

  • Wyandanch prekindergarten teachers and teacher assistants are being trained to implement Tools of the Mind curriculum in 2010-2011 school year.  Dr. Cohen provides support to improve Pre-K curriculum in classrooms throughout Long Island.

 

University grant for proposed project, Bilingual Fairy Tales Supported with Play Props (2010 - 2011). 

  • Implementing a 10 week intervention using bilingual fairy tale books, study props, and puppets with ELL preschool children.

 

University grant for Dialogic Reading with Preschoolers (March 2009 - May 2009)

  • Implemented a research-based model for explicit teaching of vocabulary through shared picture book reading.
     

 

 

University-School Partnership 

Long Island University - Wyandanch Union Free School District Partnership: Universal Pre-K Program – 2008 - 2011

 

  • Wrote and administer a grant for a partnership between a local school district and Long Island University  (First year, $60,800; second year, $65,000; third year, $65,000).
  • Provide one Pre-k teacher and one Pre-k teaching assistant to teach on-site in Wyandanch Union Free School District.
